I have an FN/USRA SPR bought early 2005 serial 'FG106XX' The serial is engraved with an etching tool and is rough and crude. The receiver is marked 'FN Special Police Rifle' and the barrel is marked 'FN Herstal Special Police.308 WIN' and 'Made by US Repeating Arms New Haven Ct.
Feb 18, 2013 FN Mauser question. If anyone knows where I can find the year of manufacture based on serial number please post a link. Unmarked FN Commercial Mausers might be. May 04, 2009 1) Is there any way to tell exactly what model FN Mauser it is from the serial number? 2) Is there any way to tell the date of manufacture from the serial number? 3) There is no caliber stamped on the rifle.
The barrel is chrome lined and the stock is a HS Precision. It came in a plain brown box without paperwork or test target, save for the FN blue owner's manual. I was told that this rifle was one of a lot that was made for the FBI but was rejected for multiple issues. Is this true?
No one can confirm or explain the crude serial number. Does 'FG' mean federal gov't contract? Please advise. I will post photos shortly. I noted that no scope could be mounted without running out of windage travel. However, the rifle gives.5 MOA but indicates high pressure with any brand match ammunition.
Case heads show extractor/ejector marks on ammunition that shoots fine in all my other Winchesters (Federal match or TAP). This rifle was a gift when I retired from federal service so I will keep it forever. However, if I cannot get to shoot factory ammo, I may have to replace the barrel and true the action. Is it an A3g? My A5m serial starts with FN325xx (2010 gun).
It may very well be a Federal Gov't reject just due to the time frame (IIRC there were some chrome flaking issues around that time) On the barrel, it say's 'Fredericksburg VA' and I'm not sure what is on the side of the receiver as I would have to take off the stock. I can't remember where they're made now. Mine does not show any pressure issues with match ammo. You could actually give FN a call and see what they have to say about the pressure issue. Here is my early SPR with all accessories. This includes blueprinted target receiver sight, NECG receiver sight for 1913 rail, globe front sight, dangerous game front sight, sight block mounted on barrel.

Harris bipod and monopod. Eight ( spare magazines. Included is a wind guage and laser 1000 yard range finder, green LED light and full field and bench rest maintenance kits. The police bag and and one shoulder support bag are not shown. Note the silver plate with medal. I would like to find a summary of serial numbers for all SBR's, USRA, Early FN at New Haven and then the South Carolina productions runs.
I need an explanation for the roughly marked 'FG' serial number. This rifle was a gift from peers when I retired from federal service and was the object of a three month federal investigation.
A disgruntled lowest ranked subordinate that I had sactioned for neglect of duties and substandard skills (I actually saved her job) filed a 'workplace violence threat' complaint after she heard our supervisory peer group having a professional discussion about firearms. A full blown 'read everybody their rights' investigation was conducted. I, and several others were placed on PAID adminstrative leave for three months. Everyone was cleared, the investigation was closed as 'Unfounded' and 'No entry in personnel files.'
The disgruntaled federal employee was tranferred to another location and ultimately 'Removed from Federal Service' for substandard performace. I was fully retired by that time and spending 4 days a week at the range. Everytime I tried to do a 'Buddy save' rather than be a hard ass supervisor, I got bit for it!
